Test cricket fantasy scoring looks familiar at first glance because runs and wickets still earn points, but the rhythm of a five-day match changes everything. A batter who grinds out 80 runs across two sessions can be worth more than a quickfire 40, and a bowler who toils for a five-wicket haul over two days can swing an entire contest. The key difference is time: Test matches give players many more chances to accumulate points, but they also give you more chances to get a selection wrong, especially when a match ends early or a player never gets a second innings.

Most fantasy platforms award points for runs scored, with bonus milestones at fifty and one hundred, and additional credit for boundaries. In Tests, those milestones matter more because big scores are common and a double century can transform a team total. Strike rate usually plays a smaller role than in white-ball formats, or is not scored at all, which means a slow but long innings is genuinely valuable. Do not judge Test batters by T20 standards: a player averaging in the forties with a strong conversion rate from fifties to hundreds is often a better fantasy pick than a flashy stroke-maker who rarely passes thirty.

Bowling points in Tests reward wickets first and foremost, with bonuses for four and five-wicket hauls. Economy rate is rarely punished the way it is in limited-overs cricket, so a bowler who goes for runs while attacking for wickets is still useful. What matters is wicket-taking threat: bowlers who bowl long spells, attack the stumps, and play on pitches offering movement or turn tend to collect hauls. A bowler who picks up three wickets in each innings quietly outscores a bowler with one spectacular spell and nothing else, so consistency across both innings is a real edge.

Fielding points come from catches, stumpings, and run outs, and in Tests the wicketkeeper is often one of the highest scorers. A keeper who bats in the top six or seven and takes five or six catches across a match can match a specialist batter. Slip fielders also benefit because edges carry more often in Test cricket, particularly in seaming conditions. When choosing between two similar batters, check who fields in the slips or close to the bat, because those extra catching chances add up over five days.

Captain and vice-captain choices deserve special thought in Tests. The multiplier applies to the whole match, so a captain who plays both innings and bowls or keeps wicket has multiple routes to points. All-rounders are therefore premium captain options in Tests: they can score runs, take wickets, and hold catches. A top-order batter facing a tired attack on a flat pitch is another strong choice, especially if the match is likely to last the full five days and give them two batting opportunities.

Match situation changes the value of players as a Test unfolds. If a team is likely to bat only once because of a huge first-innings total or rain, second-innings specialists lose value. Conversely, in a low-scoring thriller on a turning pitch, spinners and lower-order batters who can hang around become important. Weather and pitch reports matter: a green pitch boosts seamers early, while a dry, wearing pitch brings spinners into play on days four and five. Build your team with the full five days in mind, not just the first session.

The most common Test fantasy mistake is picking a team full of aggressive white-ball stars and expecting quick points. Test fantasy rewards durability: openers who see off the new ball, middle-order anchors, and bowlers with heavy workloads. Check recent Test form rather than overall reputation, look at averages in similar conditions, and favour players who are certain to play the full match. Patience is not just a Test batting virtue; it is the whole scoring strategy.
